Further to previous 'bad' reviews I think North wing Cottage at Jennywell Hall in the village of Crosby ravensworth was wonderful and the author of the review had missed the point of a rural cottage. Yes the cottage is by a working farm with all the smells and noises one would expect in that environment but surely you can't expect a farming village to smell any other way? The Cottage itself is not dirty it's just old - very old. It is comfortable and the beds and bedding were clean and fresh. The owners were lovely and provided us with all the materials to make a romantic 'real' fire. The place was quiet and peaceful and we had a wonderful time. I understand that it's not to everyones taste, the place is very remote and very quiet but it is a real cottage in a real village and not some contrived holiday let with all mod cons - if you want mod cons you should really stay at home.

This place was a real disappointment, such a shame as the location and surrounding area is so wonderful. I have infact stayed here before, long enough ago for the cottages to still be fairly new, but now they area dated, dirty and in poor repair. I don't expect the Ritz from a cottage holiday but a kitchen that falls apart is hardly adding to the charm!

Cleanliness is the real issue, especially as I have young children and am concerned about germs. There was nasty smell throughout our cottage (in addition to the forgivable 'agricultural' aromas outside' which gave the place a rather unsavoury feel. It may have been damp, which I know is common in rural buildings but not on when you are paying to stay there!

The car park is very hard to access, I took off my wing mirror on the way in. Didn't put me in the best of moods to put up with the other problems!

There are plenty of nice points about this place as a family holiday location. There is abundant wildlife, beautiful surroundings and lots to do nearby. If only they would employ a good handyman and cleaner then the place could be highly recommendable!
