About the Area

A brief description of Somerset and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

Somerset is a rural county of blissful countryside, exciting coastline and seaside resorts, spectacular cultural attractions and many intriguing historic monuments and museums. With the flexibility of a lodge, holiday park or caravan stay you will find ample opportunity for a purely relaxing escape or a fun-filled and active holiday. The countryside of Somerset is made up of the wide open moors of the Somerset Levels and stunning Exmoor, inviting woodland areas and several National Nature Reserves, as well as the beautiful Quantock Hills – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Amongst these gently rolling landscapes you can walk and cycle to your heart’s content, try out pony trekking or explore exciting networks of caves and caverns at Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. The ancient town of Glastonbury lies within the Somerset Levels, with the fairytale Glastonbury Tor, the picturesque Abbey and the famous Longleat House and Country Park among its appeal.

The coast of the county is another world entirely – traditional resorts such as Minehead and Burnham-on-Sea are great fun for all the family whilst the classic resort of Weston-super-Mare is alive with its Grand Pier, amusement arcades, donkey rides and hearty Fish and Chip suppers. If you are after something more peaceful, the coastal border of Exmoor is wonderfully undisturbed with views of dramatic cliffs and secluded bays – perfect for rejuvenating coastal rambles.

Somerset’s attractions are wide ranging, from stately homes to animal safaris. The elegant city of Bath boasts ancient Roman Baths and graceful architecture, as well as excellent shopping and entertainments to make a complete day out. There are interesting museums throughout the county, such as the Fleet Air Museum and Somerset Rural Life. For the kids, enticing attractions include Noah’s Ark, the Tropiquaria and Court Farm Country Park
