About the Area

A brief description of Shropshire and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

On the beautiful Welsh border, Shropshire is an elegant and varied destination. With the tranquillity of the extensive River Severn, the York plain of North Shopshire with its networks of waterways, rivers and gentle countryside, and the drama of the Shropshire Hills in the south, the landscapes are as varied as the activities on offer. The flatter north of the county is perfect for those who want to head out into the fresh air on scenic walks or cycle rides. Paths and routes are easily navigable and pass through really tranquil stretches of countryside. On the border with Wales, the Offa’s Dyke National Trail is a wonderful excursion – following the path of the ancient dyke built to mark the border between the two countries. Central Shropshire is dominated by the presence of The Wrekin, the largest mountain in Shropshire at over 1300 feet. To the south, the Shopshire Hills emerge with fantastic opportunities for walking, climbing and mountain biking – and even quad biking! The Secret Hills Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre exists as a wonderful way for families to experience the magic of the hilly ranges, learning all about their geographical history too.

The countryside offers plenty of versatile family days out. Hoo Hall Animal Kingdom lets you meet all manner of animals and wildlife, whilst the ‘Enginuity’ technology centre boasts interactive attractions for all ages. The Park Hall Countryside Experience brings to life a Victorian Farm, as does the Blists Hill Victorian Farm attraction.

The county town of Shrewsbury is a vibrant cultural centre with plenty to see – from elegant historic buildings and cobbled streets, to the events of the Shrewsbury Music Hall and the tranquillity of the riverside stretches. Another town worth visiting is Bridgnorth, largely for its spectacular situation on a cliff that overlooks the River Severn.
