About the Area

A brief description of Derbyshire and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

In the breathtaking surroundings of the Peak District and the Pennines, Derbyshire is a varied county with a wide range of interesting sites, natural attractions and family entertainments. Holiday parks and lodges offer a perfect base for exploring the county – an ideal contrast of rolling countryside and buzzy towns and communities mean that there is a holiday in Derbyshire to suit everyone.

The Peak District National Park is one of Derbyshire’s key appeals. Miles of gentle countryside, peaceful river valleys, rocky routes and fascinating caves are there to be explored. Walks, bike rides and outdoor activities such as climbing and caving are accessible for experts and beginners alike. Visitor attractions are wide ranging – from stately homes to railway museums to cable car tours! The Heights of Abraham is a one-off – a cable car journey to take in this country park situated on Masson Hill. Featuring caves, gaping caverns, dramatic scenery and picturesque woodlands, this location is well facilitated for a full day of adventure. Chatsworth Farmyard and Adventure Playground, the Freshfields Donkey Sanctuary and the renowned Go Ape adventure centre are just a few of the active adventures on offer for family excursions – not to mention the numerous nature trails and wildlife parks, many of which have kids clubs and interactive visitor centres.

The city of Derby is full of things to do and see, a thriving cultural city with some impressive architecture and abundant museums, galleries, shops and a good range of restaurants in the surrounding area. The Derby Playhouse is a hub of the arts, whereas shops and museums exhibit the industrial heritage of the city. Derby Cathedral is a magnificent building, and an unforgettable view of the city from the top of the tower can be enjoyed as part of a guided tour.
