About the Area

A brief description of Morayshire and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

In uniquely rejuvenating surroundings and boasting fascinating heritage, Morayshire and Nairnshire are ideal locations for a holiday park, lodge or caravan getaway. Dramatic Morayshire, with Nairnshire spreading west and sharing its spectacular Moray Firth coastline, is a wonderfully varied region with the delights of the whiskey-producing area of Strathspey close to hand. From sandy beaches, to dramatic castles and battlefields, to dolphin-spotting and golf – there is something active, relaxing or intriguing for everyone.

The coast is dramatic and easy to enjoy – sandy beaches with spectacular views are easily reached or explored via scenic coastal paths. The resort of Nairn is friendly and set in unique seaside surroundings, and the Culbin Forest Nature Reserve is wonderful for picnics, nature trails and walks that are clearly mapped and often lead you down to the beach. From Spey Bay, a tranquil seaside community, you can enjoy boat-trips to spot bottle nosed dolphins or visit the Moray Firth Wildlife Centre. The Buckie Drifter Maritime Heritage Centre is a great place to learn about the fishing history of the area.

Inland there are plenty of attractions throughout the tranquil landscapes of Morayshire and Nairnshire. Cawdor Castle is a famously magical castle, in stunning gardens and well worth a visit during your holiday. All the family will be intrigued to visit the famous battlefield of Culloden, and the ancient town of Forres where Shakespeare’s tale of Macbeth is based. Half of Scotland’s whiskey distilleries lie in the area, with Glen Moray in Elgin being the most famous.

The county’s main town, Elgin, is lovely to visit for shops, architecture including a cathedral, and a visitor centre explaining the long history of the Johnstons wool and cashmere mill.
