About the Area

A brief description of Jersey and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

The Channel Island of Jersey is the most southerly of the islands. In the mighty Atlantic Ocean, 100 miles south of Britain and close enough to the coast of France to offer a fascinating blend of the two cultures – Jersey is inevitably popular as a holiday destination, yet miraculously maintains a magical, tranquil and uncluttered feel. The tiny island, at only 45 square miles, enjoys comprehensive networks of footpaths, cycle paths and roads making it so easy to fully explore all the most beautiful spots, the fantastic coastline and the vast range of sites of historic, natural and commercial interest.

With an inescapable coastline, Jersey has many superb beaches and intricate rocky coves. Anneport beach, only accessible by foot, offers a secluded place to relax. Archirondel, with excellent facilities, is a more popular beach yet remains a peaceful place for day out or evening picnic. Plemont beach is probably the gem of the island, with a long stretch of sand, tasteful facilities and excellent surf or swimming depending on the weather. Other scenic points include the dramatic Noirmont War Memorial – a stunning viewpoint of historical importance and renowned by bird-watchers. Above the easternmost village of Gorey stands the Mont Orgueil Castle, particularly breathtaking to behold after dark when the grounds are illuminated.

For shopaholics and food-lovers, the town of St Helier is well worth a visit. Vibrant culture, colouful markets, fantastic designer deals and pretty pedestrianised streets – perfect for whiling away a day or two, or enjoying the prime seafood and rich Jersey produce on offer in local restaurants.
