About the Area

A brief description of Inverness-shire and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

In the awe-inspiring Northern Highlands, Inverness-Shire is a dramatic county of remote landscapes, imposing mountain ranges, intriguing Scottish history and picturesque lochs and glens. A holiday park, lodge or caravan in this county is a perfect way to explore the wide range of activities and attractions on offer, in the great outdoors of the Cairngorm National Park, on the spectacular coast, and throughout friendly Scottish communities and the lively city of Inverness.

Mountaineers, walkers of all abilities, mountain-bikers and climbers flock to the dramatic Cairngorms all year round. Nearly 50 imposing peaks permeate the landscape, with the eerie Cairngorm Plateau offering a truly remote Highland atmosphere. There are a number of outdoor pursuits centres, making family excursions easy to arrange, and the nearby Glenmore Forest is alive with watersports activities, golf courses, cycle ways and even skiing in the higher ranges. For less active days out, try a turn on the Strathspey Railway through scenery made famous by the TV favourite, Monarch of the Glen.

The city of Inverness is a city glistening with culture and full of things to do and see. Explore the Victorian Market, sample modern shopping centres, visit Inverness Castle and St Andrews Cathedral…or try something different like a day fishing ticket or a boat trip to spot bottlenose dolphins. Around the city, fantastic days out include the famous Loch Ness – thought to be home of the Nessie monster – and all manner of watersports, fishing and boating on lochs and connected waterways. Fort Augustus has an outstanding golf course, whilst nearby Urquhart Castle is an impressive sight to behold.
