About the Area
A brief description of Herefordshire and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.
Herefordshire is a beautiful combination of colourful countryside and intriguing culture in the east of England. Rich in agriculture and with more rural land than most other UK counties, Hereford has a wealth of nature to explore. The inviting countryside has encouraged ambitious activity centres, such as the exciting ‘University of the Great Outdoors’ and the annual Herefordshire Walking Festival. The local produce is one of the county’s proudest assets, particularly the production of cider – renowned thoughout the UK.
The River Dore and River Wye attract many activities as well as being surrounded by stunningly unspoilt countryside. The Golden Valley, gently wrapping the River Dore with its woodland slopes, is one of the UK’s most untouched locations. The River Wye, winding through the renowned Wye Valley, is also ideal for rowing and canoeing, with the scenic focal point of the quaint market town, Ross-on-Wye and its delightful church.
For an active holiday, there are plenty of ways to get out in the fresh air. Cycle centres, pony trekking, canoeing, fishing, adventure centres, golf and even mountain boarding – all available in the gorgeous countryside for all ages. For kids, there are some really fun choices – Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, the Kington Owl Centre, the Dick Whittington themed Mohair Countryside Centre and the Amazing Hedge Puzzle maze are just a few examples.
The county town of Hereford is a vibrant cultural centre – with livestock markets, laid-back shopping streets and plenty of visitor attractions. A wide range of restaurants, pubs and bars are on offer as well as lots of places to relax and refuel on the banks of the River Wye.
