About the Area

A brief description of Hampshire and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

The varied county of Hampshire boasts unique countryside in its New Forest National Park, rolling South Downs and the stunning coastline of The Solent. All this is complemented by wide-ranging family entertainments, elegant architecture and bustling culture in picturesque villages, traditional market towns and the thriving port cities of Portsmouth and Southampton.

For active excursions, the Hampshire countryside offers ideal surroundings for walking, cycling and nature trails. Inland or on the coast, excellent networks of footpaths make the great outdoors easily accessible wherever you are based. Managed parklands with excellent facilities are a great way for the family to experience rural life. Queen Elizabeth Country Park is a huge expanse of National Nature Reserve and woodland, whilst Manor Farm Country Park is a fantastic farm-based attraction on the banks of the River Hamble.

Hampshire’s coastal fringe has many enticing inland areas, with lakes and waterways offering a range of sports, activities and fishing. The coast itself is rich in important maritime history, evident at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and various museums and visitor centres. A centre for yachting and sailing, the Hamble estuary is famed for its regattas and sailing centres which are great fun to observe even if you are not a sea-farer. Port Solent, the harbours of Emsworth and Keyhaven offer peaceful locations to watch the comings and goings of boats and perhaps grab a bit to eat at sunset.

The elegant county town, Winchester, is a lovely place to while away a few hours – admiring the cathedral and investigating the legendry tales of King Arthur and his round table. For an urban fix, Portsmouth has the full range of city entertainments and nightspots. For the kids, the Action Stations interactive museum, the Blue Reef Aquarium and the exciting Clarence Pier Amusement Park are ideal even on wet and windy days.
