About the Area

A brief description of Guernsey and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

A Channel Island, close to France yet loyal to the British crown, Guernsey is a fascinating mix of French culture and British heritage. This is the second largest of the islands, offering 25 square miles of secluded culture nestling in untouched countryside and surrounded by enticing coastlines. The higher landscape of the southern Haut Pas is wonderful for exhilarating walks or cycle rides, whilst the flatter plains of the northern region, Bas Pas, include lazy, sandy bays and intriguing settlements. There are several nature reserves on the island, such as La Claire Mare, a dramatic marshlands overflowing with interesting plant and orchids, and the Saumarez Nature Trail. The Pleinmont Headland is a fantastic viewpoint, surrounded by a networks of cliff top paths, where birds, wildlife and interesting plants thrive.

The Channel Islands are proud of their unique histories. Guernsey has a distinct culture of its own, and many sites of historic interest. L’Ancresse Common, as well as being a picturesque spot for walking and wildlife, is scattered with ancient remains of fortifications and burial sites. A medieval footpath passes through La Folie valley, and many attractions focus on the rich maritime and military history of the island – try La Vallette Underground Military Museum or the museums of the impressive Castle Cornet, which has historically stood guard over the coastal town of St Peter Port.

The town of St Peter Port is a must-see during your stay. Here you will find exclusive duty-free shopping, gorgeous winding streets and a lively harbour. Boat trips, puffin-spotting and fishing excursions are just some of the activities on offer.
