About the Area

A brief description of Essex and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

If you’ve never thought of Essex as a holiday destination, it’s probably because you don’t know just how much it really has to offer – fantastic coastal resorts and peaceful nature reserves, a rural county of thatched cottages and rolling pastures and a wealth of historic interest from maritime industry to agriculture.

The Essex coastline is an ideal combination of lively resorts and tranquil stretches, laced with river estuaries. Timeless Southend-on-Sea is well worth a visit with its impressive pier and extensive events and activities. The Sealife Centre is a great family experience and the UK’s top free admission fun park, Adventure Island, will be a hit with the kids. Clacton-on-Sea is a traditional family resort with a colourful atmosphere, whilst Frinton-on-Sea holds its own as a quirky and distinctive resort – full of boutique shops and boasting a wonderful beach, scenic coastal walks nearby and a unique outdoor theatre during the summer. There are plenty of resorts and coastal villages to explore with their own character and charm. The ports towns of Maldon and Harwich are of particular historic interest, whilst Brightlingsea and Burnham-on-Crouch are alive with the comings and goings of yachts in the summer months.

For more peaceful excursions, there are long stretches of un-developed coastline fantastic for walking and picnicking in natural surroundings – also a delight for birdwatchers. The inland rural countryside of Essex is rich in agriculture, but peppered with impressive country houses and gardens. To experience England’s oldest town, with contemporary culture to boot, head to Colchester, and for winning kids’ attractions don’t miss Barleylands Farm Centre and Craft Village, Tropical Wings interactive all-weather zoo and the fascinating Royal Gunpowder Mills.
