About the Area

A brief description of Channel Islands and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

The Channel Islands quite simply offer a unique holiday experience. Nowhere else will you experience an enchanting blend of British and French cultures, surrounded by beautifully preserved countryside, beaches verging on the exotic and elegant urban centres. The Channel Islands are under British Crown, but govern themselves independently. The product of a rich and intriguing history, illustrated in historical landmarks, vibrant family experiences and proud re-enactment events, these islands have a pace, character and style of their own. Arts and crafts industries thrive, whilst the energetic communities welcome you to numerous events, festivals and celebrations of the islands’ heritage.

The splendour of Mont Orgueil Castle on Jersey, the buzzing atmosphere and indulgent shopping of St Peter Port on Guernsey, rich local produce and firm tradition across both islands make for an excitement holiday atmosphere. Whilst you can make your holiday your own, there are many active ways to explore the islands – at a leisurely or adventurous pace – and a good range or family-oriented activities and attractions including a zoo, many museums and some intriguing buildings and historic remains. Not to mention the beaches and watersports!

If it is a scenic escape you are after, you will find rejuvenating coastal walks and picturesque countryside in abundance in the Channel Islands. There are several nature reserves and no end of popular spots for birdwatchers. You can even go on a puffin-spotting boat trip, or try your hand at fishing. Simply taking in the views from one of the headlands or strolling through untouched countryside, you will feel truly removed from everyday life.
