About the Area

A brief description of Carmarthenshire and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

Carmarthenshire boasts the title ‘Garden of Wales’ – a worthy description of this gently landscaped and blossoming county. Better still, there are miles of blissful South West Wales coastline for scenic walks and excellent cycle routes. You will find all manner of excursions and interest when you stay in a holiday park, lodge or caravan in Carmarthenshire.

Relatively untouched compared to the more ‘touristy’ regions of Wales, the Carmarthenshire coast is well-laced with easy or challenging routes to get a burst of sea air. The Millenium Coastal Path and Cycle Route is a picturesque trail starting at the county’s largest town Llanelli. Here also is the recently developed Millenium Coastal Park with a thriving marina and good leisure facilities. Be sure also to explore the intriguing area of conservation that is the Wildlife and Wetland Trust’s National Wetlands Centre – a fantastic family day out with an interactive visitor centre, wildlife inspired activities and even a Canoe Safari!

The most dramatic scenery in Carmarthenshire is in the bold mountainous ranges – the Cambrian Mountains to the north and the Black Mountain range of the Brecon Beacons National Park to the east. Though hikers and climbers flock to the more daring ascents, all ages and abilities will find manageable walks in the lower hills and through beautiful valleys. Attractions in the county range from castles to gold-panning exursions, from animal attractions to inspiring gardens. Oakwood Theme Park, the largest in Wales, is nearby in Pembrokeshire and is a great family treat. Several scenic railways include the Amman Valley Railway, Gwili Railway and The Heart of Wales Line – fantastic ways for your whole group to sit back, enjoy the picturesque surroundings and visit the county’s thriving and historic towns.
