Ayrshire is a fascinating and beautiful county, of breathtaking coastal scenery, unique Scottish heritage and wide-ranging activity. From sandy beaches and island voyages, to world-class golf and fascinating wildlife, to castles, ancestry of heroes and the thriving city of Glasgow, there is something for everyone to enjoy during a holiday park, lodge or caravan stay in Ayrshire.

Many lovely seaside villages include Ayr on the Firth of Clyde, birthplace of Robert the Bruce. Nearby Troon and Prestwick are, like Turnberry, renowned destinations for golfers and the villages of Alloway and Dunure are well worth exploring for their associations with the poet Robert Burns and the ruined castles and Dunure. The Burns National Heritage Park is a fantastic family day out, experiencing the surroundings that inspired the poet and learning about his story – just one of many intriguing historic sites in Ayrshire, including over 40 impressive castles such as Culzean Castle and Country Park, Loch Doon, Eglington and Dundonald.

Rugged mountain ranges inland, and lush green hills to the south of the region are paradise for walkers and mountain bikers as well as offering dramatic scenery of surrounding country and coast. If you are feeling adventurous, take a boat trip to the stunning Isle of Arran or Cumbrae. Arran is said to represent Scotland in miniature, with the same variety of stunning landscapes and offering exciting outdoor activities, castles, museums and a local distillery. The smaller Isle of Cumbrae is perfect for cyclists; you can hire bikes on the island and cycle all round its coast – stopping to watch the seals at Millport Harbour.

Don’t forget to visit Glasgow for your urban fix – a fascinating capital with exciting entertainments, galleries, restaurants and of course fantastic shopping.
