About the Area

A brief description of Argyllshire and what you can expect to experience in the area of your park.

The birthplace of the Gaelic tongue, and of the Scottish nation, Argyllshire is a visually dramatic and culturally absorbing county. Stunning coastline and the dramatic Mull of Kintyre peninsula, fantastic walking and outdoor pursuits on mountains and plains, as well as thriving sailing centres on lochs and at sea. Abundant heritage to explore, the beauty of the islands and world-class golf…everything you could ask for when you stay at a holiday park, lodge or caravan in Argyll.

The county overlaps the impressive Stirlingshire National Parks of Loch Lomond and The Trussocks, but also has its own spectacular scenery in areas such as Glencoe – a one-off beauty spot with wonderful walking and peaceful waters. The intimidating Aonoch Eagach ridge spans three peaks and is a famously challenging route for adventurous holiday-goers. Admire too the Arrochar Alps, with the dominating presence of the munro of Beinn Arthur and perhaps follow a stretch of the West Highland Way, a dramatic trail from Glasgow to the massive Ben Nevis mountain.

The Glen of Kilmartin is a special location – explore ancient Scottish history at Dunnadd Fort and experience trails of fascinating ruins, castles and stately homes. Visit the impressive Inverrary Castle, take a turn on the famous Inverrary golf course, or admire the stunning Crarae Gardens.

The lochs and coastline of Argyllshire are alive with sailing activity, as well as being utterly picturesque and are perfect for coastal walking or valley strolling. In the northern areas of the coast fishing is hugely successful. The highlight is the Mull of Kintyre, stretching out towards the Isle of Bute and the stunning, whiskey-producing isles of Islay and Jura. Don’t miss the ancient lighthouse and the lively harbour of Oban.
