About the Area

A brief description of Worcestershire and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.

The Malvern Hills, the sweeping Avon valleys, the tranquil waters of the Severn, the charm of the traditional Broadway village and the market town of Evesham summarise the variety of this county. Also bordering the northern parts of the Cotswalds, this is a desirable landscape in an excellent holiday location. For the active, there are leisurely or challenging walks, cycles and pony treks. The Malvern Hills are also popular with hand gliding enthusiasts. The numerous waterways in the area offer fishing, boat trips and canoeing.

The ‘shire’ town of Worcester looks over the River Severn and offers intrigue, elegance and modern entertainments. The Royal Worcester Porcelain Visitor Centre is the best known attraction and draws specialist interest from all over the world. Worcester Sauce is amazingly still made in the town, to a secret recipe and at the original factory of Lea and Perrins. The Severn Valley Railway, an important steam-engine line, begins at the town of Kidderminster and Tenbury Wells is home to the Teme Bridge that divides Worcestershire and Shropshire at that point.

There are year-round delights in the many festivals that take place throughout the county, from the food fairs in small towns and villages, crafts fairs and open air theatre to the Three Choirs Festival, England’s oldest choral festival is held in Worcester every three years. Worcester also hosts an annual Victorian-themed Christmas Street Fayre.
