About the Area
A brief description of West Sussex and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.
Bordering East Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey, West Sussex offers it’s own combination of infamous gastronomy, quirky cool, intriguing heritage and beautifully preserved countryside.
This county has everything in terms of land, sea and sights, but lets start with the historical interest – a renowned feature of West Sussex. Arundel Castle is stately home of the Dukes of Norfolk – brimming with paintings, furniture and ancestry dating back to Norman times. While you’re in the town, take the Arunel Ghost Experience, great for young kids (but not too young!) and fun for adults. In addition to the many other Roman villas and priories, the latest attraction is the recently opened Cowdray Ruins, set in gorgeous park land and claimed to be one of the most important preservations of a noble Tudor home.
On the coast, you might start with a boat tour in Chichester Harbour– a perfect way to enjoy this offical Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Chichester is also a base for canal trips, angling, canoeing and rowing. Wey & Arun canal is also a beautifully restored section of canal, well worth exploration.
Part of the divine South Downs lie in West Sussex, edging the flat plains leading to another area of coast – comprising the classic seaside resorts of Bognor Regis, Worthing and Littlehampton. Bognor Regis holds the sunniest weather records of any coastal town in Britain, and is home to bustling tourism and a number of cultural festivals year-round.
