About the Area

A brief description of Staffordshire and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.

Many people associate Staffordshire with the industrial city of Stoke-on-Trent, and may not realise the wealth of natural beauty and unique culture on offer in this county – right in the centre of England. The National Forest lies within partly the county and has endless opportunities for walking, cycling, horse-riding, picnics and more. Made up of smaller woodlands such as Seale Wood and Tunnel Woods, and including picturesque spots like Kelham Bridge and Sence Valley, The National Forest is a haven for families, nature-lovers and explorers. A designated Area of Natural Beauty, the Cannock Chase lowland heathlands are a national treasure where sumptious colours form the landscape. A mixure of parks, forests, gentle slopes and wildlife the area is wonderful for walking and also is a highly popular area for mountain biking.

Staffordshire is a gateway to the Peak District National Park, the most visited National Park in the UK. Whilst the scenery is varied and stunning, there are a wide range of cultural attractions - the impressive Chatsworth House, picturesque villages such as Castleton and sites of interests like the Mining Museum at Matlock Bath. The gritstone and limestone peaks attract rock climbers from all over the UK.

In this central England location, there are many thriving towns and communities. Stoke-on-Trent has a rich history in the pottery industry, and all you expect from a lively city centre. Numerous galleries and the Etruria Industrial Museum are among the cultural attractions. Nearby is Alton Towers, the vast and ever-changing theme park – a winner with kids of all ages! Stafford, the refined county town, boasts flower shows, festivals, many visitor attractions and some particularly good restaurants.
