About the Area

A vast area within South Devon is classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, encompassing the gaping valleys of the Avon and Dart rivers, 60 miles of sandy coves, rugged cliffs and award-winning beaches and a widespread array of Conservation Areas and Nature Reserves. South Devon also includes an area of untouched Heritage Coast, where coastal walks offer a true escape. The estuaries that characterise the South Devon coast provide perfect waters for sailing, more idyllic coastal walks and scenic ferry trips. Inland are high moorlands, secluded farmhouses, gentle hills and liberating country lanes. Delightful villages are dotted around and punctuated by good English pubs and local produce.

Dartmouth is a wonderful mixture of colourful houses, winding streets and up-and-down pathways. The natural harbour as focal point is historically linked to the rich history of the town, and now is home to moored boats and post-card scenery. Plenty of important architecture, museums, galleries and varied entertainments – Dartmouth is a must during your holiday. Dawlish is a lovely seaside town with several nearby beaches, town-centre flowerbeds, pretty bridges and atmospheric streets. An annual carnival offers masses of free entertainment for all the family.

There are bags of attractions and activities to chose from in South Devon if the scenery is not enough for you. Art galleries tucked away in small towns and village crafts markets, imposing historical buildings and architecture - inland and on the coast, amusement parks and activity centres and plenty of chances to try new and exciting outdoor pursuits and watersports.
