Cornwall makes us all think of sunny beaches, surfing and pasties, and North Cornwall has all these things and more. With numerous historic sites, country houses, imposing castles and fun activities, not to mention an abundance of arts and crafts and delicious local produce, this fabulous holiday destination can be as exciting, relaxing and indulgent as you make it.

The 60 miles of Atlantic Heritage Coast has beaches for all tastes. For a family day out, you might head for the sprawling sands of Daymer Bay. There are coastal paths leading to other beaches, delightful dunes and you can even walk right along the coast to Rock at low tide, where there are fantastic restaurants, pubs and a sailing centre. For the keen surfers, or if you want to invest in some flip-flops, head for nearby Polzeath. This beach has exhilarating waves and sensible safety guidelines. Trevone Bay is another popular beach with excellent facilities and a lifeguard. Situated within a geologically fascinating area, you will be spoilt by the choice of walks and explorations nearby. Booby’s Bay has the added interest of a nearby National Trust property, and has received awards for its cleanliness. Bude is home to a number of picturesque and popular bays, where boats moore and clink in the wind and coastal attractions include visitor centres and enchanting wildlife walks.

For some bustling culture, spend a day or two in the lively port of Padstow, on the edge of the stunning waters of Camel Estuary. Go on a fishing trip, taste some fantastic seafood at Rick Stein’s acclaimed restaurant, browse the shops and admire the enchanting local arts and crafts.
