About the Area

A brief description of Mid Wales and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.

Mid Wales is a surprising holiday area in terms of spectacular and interesting scenery, exciting opportunities for outdoor pursuits, coastline appeal and some of the most impressive natural beauty in the UK. The county of Powys is an exhilerating cocktail of mountainous treks, riverside walks, valley explorations and characterful Welsh towns and villages. The area has two renowned National Trails – Offa’s Dyke and Glyndwr’s Way – long, dramatic pathways that can be broken down into sections for extreme or dabbling hikers. The Severn Valley is a stunning area punctuated by the famous Powis Castle in the elevated town of Welshpool. Towns and villages in the county are full of traditional Welsh culture and are friendly, bustling places to visit.

The Cambrian Mountains dominate Mid Wales, with their intense heather caped landscapes and wonderful walking and biking opportunities. Cardiganshire, or Ceredigion, shares the Cambrian Mountains with Powys, including the scenic town of Devil’s Bridge with a breathtaking railway line and crashing waterfalls. In addition to excellent inland walking trails and carefully planned routes for cyclists, Cardiganshire area boasts some lively areas of coastline, with excellent sailing at Aberaeron, the lush sandy beach at Aberporth, dolphin spotting at New Quay and infamous view points at Llangrannog. The Cardigan Bay area is a designated conservation area meaning that visitors from far and wide come to admire rare species of birds and blossoming surroundings.

To the south of the region lies the Brecon Beacons National Park, within easy reach during your stay. This is a treasured area that entices budding mountaineers, and also has some of the loveliest views in Wales
