About the Area

A brief description of Lancashire and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.

The Red Rose county of Lancashire, in the north west of England, is a wonderfully varied holiday destination with easy access to coastal resorts and paths, hilly explorations, thriving market towns and historic cities and a stone’s throw from the renowned beauty of the Lake District.

Bordered to the west by the Irish Sea, the resort towns of Lytham, Blackpool and Morecambe are packed with family entertainments and the surrounding coastal areas offer some particularly lovely walking and cycling routes. The Lancashire Golf Coast is a one off experience for golfers, nature-lovers will be endlessly intrigued at renowned bird-watching centres and explorers will find delightful views along the Lancashire Coastal Way. If you are feeling adventurous, a guided walk across Morecambe Bay is a unique day out for any size of party, with the northern backdrop of the Lakeland fells.

All year round the Lancashire countryside is picturesque and varied. The Forest of Bowland, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a unique landscape of heather-clad moors and rolling hills – brimming with wildlife and exciting woodlands. The area encompasses the mystic Pendle Hill including the Pendle Way hike and a section of the Bronte Way. A stunning landscape of imposing views and dotted with ancient settlements. A second Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is formed by Arnside and Silverdale, stretching across the Cumbrian border and boasting pretty lanes, dramatic fells as well as nature-filled forests and pathways. Walkers will find all levels of route to enjoy, well documented and punctuated by excellent pubs where you can sample some of the renowned local foods and ales produced in the area!
