About the Area

A brief description of Kent and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.

Known as the Garden of England, Kent is just that – being full of beautiful scenery, enchanting character, activity on your doorstep and endless delights if food and drink. Boasting two officially recognised Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which cover a third of the county. The Kent Downs are renowned for open and inspiring landscapes, stretching from the white cliffs of Dover to the borders with London and Surrey. Animal and plant life thrive on the natural expanse making this a truly regenerating atmosphere. High Weald is also home to a rare variety of nature’s treasures, but offers the dramatic scenery of the White Cliffs Countryside and Romney Marsh.

In contrast to these wide open spaces, Kent also offers vast areas of ancient woodlands – great for walks and day trips. To enjoy a classic day in the Kent countryside, pick up a picnic from a local farmers market or farm shop, find a picturesque spot with an easy-going walk route, sit back and enjoy the food then stroll for a while to take in the tranquil surroundings. Even in winter, these areas are quite magical and with so many landscapes to take in you won’t run out of options or entertainment. On the coast, the choice is just as colourful. The Isle of Thanet is the name given to the area containing the resorts of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramgate, and many picturesque surrounding villages. These resorts offer timeless charm of the seaside along with watersports facilites and excellent hospitality, but also some of the most secluded areas of coast in the country. The southeast coast offers another range of character with the trendy, buzzy and arty atmosphere of Whistable and the historic town of Sandwich.
