About the Area

A brief description of Isle of Wight and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.

There are few better ways to escape, refresh and inspire than hopping on a ferry and exploring the tranquillity and vitality of the Isle of Wight. Small enough to see its every corner and cove, this island lies off the south coast of England separated only by the Solent waters. With rugged coastlines and lazy beaches, ancient history and legend, thriving local traditions and a surprising range of activities, you can’t really go wrong here for a short or long break with family or friends. The coastline is the obvious attraction on a small island, but here you will find a quite unique ambience. On the southern side, visitors are drawn to the unspoilt beaches of the Tennyson Heritage Coast and the shimmering chalk cliffs at Freshwater Bay. Explore the bold and contrasting sandstone cliffs of Alum Bay, easily accessible by road and foot and promising a memorable coastal walk or scenic drive.

To the northern Solent coast, you will find a contrasting outlook of woodland slopes, making up the Bouldnor Forest. Thorness Bay is a wide beach in grassy, open surroundings. It caters brilliantly for tourists but remains a relaxing location. The nearby town of Cowes offers plenty of entertainment, eating and drinking, and local character – including the famous Sand Shops. Cowes is internationally renowned as a yachting centre - the Solent waters are hugely popular for sailing, due to relatively safe waters, attracting enthusiasts and beginners all year round.

This island may be small enough to navigate in a day, but that won’t stop you going back again and again!
