About the Area

A brief description of Herefordshire and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.

Bordering Wales, in the far west of England, Herefordshire is a country known for its agricultural wealth, with rivers, fields and farmland rich with renowned local produce. Although agriculture has decreased in recent years, the country remains largely rural and wonderfully picturesque. Herefordshire is famous for its apple orchards and cider, the salmon of the Wye River, and the succulent Hereford Beef. The county is passionate about its produce and works hard to maintain these quality industries, meaning that pubs and restaurants and local markets provide fantastic ranges of produce to try.

Work off all those goodies in the great outdoors – there are many other activities aside from walking. Golf, pony-trekking, go-karts, not to mention the more extreme kayaking, caving, climbing and even ‘mountain-boarding’. For walkers, there are endless routes and trails to see the county. If you follow the new Herefordshire Trail, it will take you through delightful countryside stopping off at pretty market towns on the way, whilst the fabulous ‘Black and White Village Trail’ is also a must. The annual Summer Walking Festival is a great opportunity to try new routes and hear experts discuss their favourites. The city of Hereford and its surrounding area has plenty to offer - a thriving arts and crafts community boasts photography festivals, craft fairs and art galleries, and a lively music scene. There are small galleries and workshops all over the country, hidden away, so don’t be afraid to explore! Other bustling towns include the picturesque Ross-On-Wye situated on the edge of the beautiful Forest of Dean and on the Wye river. Smaller towns such as these have lively markets and their own special pieces of heritage.
