About the Area
A brief description of Flintshire and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.
Just past Chester and with the dramatic Snowdonia as its backdrop, Flintshire is an accessible yet exciting county known as the ‘Gateway to Wales’. The gentle and varied landscapes rich in agriculture, the coastal points, rivers and valleys are all steeped with history and ideal for out and about holidaymakers.
On the coast enjoy the spectacular sands of Talacre Village, where the sand dunes are a home to all manner of wildlife and offer some sensational coastal walks. A genuine nature reserve, indoor and outdoor activities and a fascinating 17th Century Lighthouse make this a unique day out.
Inland, attractions include the Greenland Valley Heritage Park, where a network of picturesque paths link numerous historic buildings and monuments. There are seven monuments within a 70 acre park, offering days of exploring. A range of hiking routes pass through Waun y Llyn, an attractive expanse of heather clad, hilly countryside where you can walk for short or long distances on easy or more challenging terrain. The more intimate landscapes of the wooded Nant y Ffrith Valley provide intimate trails on the border with Wrexham.
For active days, visit Wepre Country Park for extensive family facilities. Take advantage of the National Cycle Network’s varied routes in the area, or chose a pony trek on the coast. If you are feeling less hearty, the county can also be enjoyed by car with an excellent rental facility available for just that purpose – The Flintshire Leisure Drive.
