About the Area
A brief description of Fife and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.
A rolling peninsula situated between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Tay, Fife is an enticing holiday destination with plenty to offer including lively outdoor pursuits, the world-famous golf courses at St Andrews, dramatic coastal paths and stunning beaches. The quaint character of the pretty seaside harbours and villages, the unique contrast between the rural north and the bustling south, fascinating nature reserves and intriguing culture and heritage – all summing up the best of Scotland in a county barely 50 miles wide.
The north of the county, where most visitors are drawn to the St Andrews golf courses, is a contrast of hearty hills and exhilarating coastline. Rugged pathways, intricate rocky bays and golden beaches are perfect for that ultimate feeling of escape.
Moving southwards, stop off at any of the picturesque fishing villages such as St Monens or Pittenweem, then move on to the ancient village of Falkland with its renowned and haunting palatial ruins. In blissful countryside, Cupar is the characteristic market town with independent shops and a friendly local atmosphere.
To the south of the peninsula and not far from the impressive Forth Bridge, you will find the largest town, Kirkcaldy. This bustling centre has a fantastic market, street fair and, like many of the characterful towns and villages in the region, plenty of places to explore, entertain and eat.
