About the Area

A brief description of Cheshire and what you can expect to experience on your holiday.

Situated in North West England, Cheshire is a land of ‘peaks and plains’ with a strong agricultural and industrial history and many towns, villages and residences of interest. For walkers and explorers, some fantastic routes and scenic points exist within Cheshire. Follow the River Bollin from Macclesfield Forest to the Manchester Ship Canal, soak up open space and abundant wildlife on The Moor, edging onto the River Lily and Knutsford. May day festivities and year round beauty take place on the Knutsford Heath. Follow the Gritstone Trail and take in the fantastic views, pleasant riverside scenes and peaceful tracks. The small lake of Redesmere is home to a surprising range of wildlife and has an easily navigable network of footpaths. The Black Lake at Lindow Common is also acclaimed for its wildlife and has been classed an Area of Special Scientific Interest.

There are many delicious old villages to punctuate your day-trips – Alderley Edge offers exclusive retail therapy whilst Prestbury (on the River Bollin) holds many architectural delights such as the ancient Normal Chapel. Quality restaurants and galleries to browse make this a great place to wile away a few hours. The city of Chester has endless character in its 13th century, double-decker rows of shops, pretty streets and endless Heritage sites. The cathedral is breathtaking, the Chester Ampitheatre is intriguing, and guided tours aplenty will show you the fascintating hidden corners of the city. For shopaholics, you can get your fix here!
