About the Area
A brief description of Norfolk Broads and what you can expect to experience on your river/canalboat holiday.
The Norfolk Broads are a network of peaceful waterways and lakes in East Anglia, in the south east of England. The main navigable rivers include the River Bure, the River Yare, the River Waveney, the River Thurne and the River Ant. For years, the blissful countryside and rivers have been popular for boating holidays, a playground for freshwater watersports, and a haven for nature and wildlife lovers.
A boating holiday is always a relaxing experience, but on the Norfolk Broads even more so – with over 125 miles of lock-free waterways, ample facilities, plenty of mooring space for excursions and truly rejuvenating, open landscapes. The flat landscapes are ideal for cycle excursions, riverside walks and more – all of which are possible to include in your leisurely cruise.
Start points are spread throughout the network, offering you a wide range of options when planning your route. Perhaps schedule in a trip into ancient Norwich, where riverside pubs, historic monuments and buildings, and a buzzing city centre are all within easy reach. Take in the seaside air and the range of entertainments at Lowestoft or Great Yarmouth, following peaceful river stretches that lead you towards the coast. Wroxham – the so-called capital of the Norfolk Broads – is a popular place to begin cruising and well worth a visit to sample the friendly ambience of this traditional resort.
