About the Area

A brief description of Brundall and what you can expect to experience on your river/canalboat holiday.

Starting at Brundell, you will easily tailor your Norfolk Broads boating holiday to suit your tastes – whilst even the northernmost Broads are accessible, there are some wonderful attractions within easy distance. Brundell is situated next to the Surlingham Broad Nature Reserve, a renowned area for birdwatchers and nature-lovers. Heading west, Brundell is the closest start-point to the ancient city of Norwich where you can travel right into the heart of the city. Some of the oldest architecture in the UK can be found here, including the famous Norwich Castle and museum, along with plenty of lovely riverside pubs, lively culture and excellent shopping. If you only see one thing, make it the cathedral – you can moor up within a stone’s throw.

Heading east on the River Yare, there are plenty of places to stop off before you reach Great Yarmouth, for your seaside fix, or Lowestoft if you navigate south on the tranquil stretches of the River Waveney. You may navigate west along the short stretch of the River Chet, to the lovely market town of Leddon.

On a longer route, heading north from Great Yarmouth on the River Bure, you will come across tranquil marshlands and signs of ancient industry such as the historic Stracey Arms Mill. The River Thurne leads north-east up to Hickling and the Hickling Broad Nature Reserve, whilst continuing on the Bure can take you to the main Broads resort of Wroxham or Stalham – the so-called ‘gateway to the Broads’ – which has a fascinating old Fire Brigade Station and quirky shops and cafes.
