Would recommend the journey from Norwich to Manchester, but do make sure you book early to avoid a ridiculous cost. I managed to get mine for about £40 return, which is comparable to petrol costs in the car. Pickup was via one the fast ticket machines in Norwich station which was easy having booked online at trainline.com
Journey was smooth with a few stops near Peterborough and Nottingham.
Arrival at Manchester Piccadilly was fine but suprising how big the main train station is in Manchester, I had a job finding my way out!
