Area Guide
What to expect in the area of Los Cristianos and things to do
Rivalling Playa de Las Americas as the most popular resort on the Canary Island of Tenerife, Los Cristianos is honed for tourists and thriving with activity. However, the resort manages to retain a slightly more peaceful and cultural ambience than the youthful Playa de Las Americas. Los Cristianos was originally charming fishing village and a little of this heritage is still visible.
The resort is positioned only 15km west of Tenerife’s southern airport, Reina Sofia. In this prime location, Los Cristianos was caught up in the tourism boom in the 70s and 80s, and now offers a huge variety of accommodation (from hotels to timeshares) and entertainment (watersports, bars, restaurants, you name it…).
There are two central beaches - Playa de Los Cristianos and Las Vistas (which is man-made but still absolutely gorgeous). Beach volley-ball, water-skiing and all manner of activities stem from these coastal hotspots. As you’d expect, they are also surrounded by a buzzing nightlife. For kids there are also endless attractions, our favourite being the Aqua Park – Octopus.
Your airport transfer will be short and painless at only about 25 minutes. About 45 minutes away for Los Cristianos is the island capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and if you are an adventurer you are in luck – Los Cristianos operates as a port for excursions to the neighbouring Canary Islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro.
