The Hotel Gellert, famous for its antique spa baths, offers large, sumptuous rooms in an impressive historical building. The upkeep of the beautiful decor is immaculate, including stained glass windows throughout, wrought iron lift cages and a water fountain. The food was pretty standard but perfectly edible but the service couldn't be faulted. The one criticism I would have was that the famous baths, although wonderful, had very limited opening hours, therefore being unable to take a relaxing dip after a days sightseeing which is a great pity as they always feature prominently in guidebooks. There is much to admire in the baths: spa pools, wavepools, steam rooms, all set in wonderful gardens and mosaiced halls. There may be better places to stay in terms of views in the city, however we found it easy to walk to all the most famous attractions (probably 15-20mins to the Castle itself) and there is something immensely satisfying about actually staying in a tourist attraction and being able to do so affordably at that!
