My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend at the end of February, the hotel is 5* very comfortable and the staff are pleasant and helpful. We used the spa facility which is small but very good. We enjoyed walking around Chester and there are lots of unusual shops to browse through. As it was a special celebration we were prepared to spend extra for a good hotel.

Our one complaint was with the company we made the booking through - ebookers, they quoted a price on line and appeared to be cheaper than others but we discovered when paying at the hotel that they had not added VAT to the price they quoted, as it was an expensive weekend this added a considerable amount to our bill . Because of this they were in fact much more expensive than other companies for the same hotel. The other quotes initially appeared to be more expensive but were not as they already included the vat and in the end we would have been better to use an alternative booking company. I have used ebookers regularly in the past and never had this experience, VAT was always included and the price they quoted was always what we paid. However I was disappointed and annoyed by this hidden charge and will not be using ebookers in future so they have just lost a regular customer.
