We booked a compact car to rent with Budget, Downtown Calgary. We were due to pick it up 9am on a sunday morning, drop it back 9am on a monday morning. When we got there they didn't have a compact car for us, but an SUV, which was fine. We hadn't got car parking outside of our apartment in Calgary, so we decided to drop the car off on the Sunday night/Monday morning at 1am. My fiance dropped the car back at the Budget Car rental location and put the key in the 'key drop' box on the side door. We got a call from Budget the next day asking for the car key, we advised we left it in the drop box. They said it wasn't there. I advised my fiance gave it a lot of thought as to whether to leave the key in the box or not, after much thought he decided to use the utility of the drop box since there was video surveillance there. Budget are still confirming that they don't have the key. Instead of a $77 car hire fee, we now have to pay them $377. A $300 charge for a key that we dropped off in their drop box on their secure premises. The manager was very unsympathetic. He will just not accept that we dropped the key off. Never again will we hire a car from Budget...
