This really is a gorgeous beach! Why go abroad when such a beautiful bay is available in the UK? Soft, golden sand, thrilling waves and a lovely little village behind it to boot. The beach is about three miles long so there is usually plenty of room, although the sheer quality of the bay (especially in the UK where great beaches are hard to come by) means on nice days it can get busy. The sea is, frankly, freezing cold but that won't bother the kids! Keep an eye on them though - the rip tides in the Atlantic can be treachorous and make sure you take note of the lifeguard's flags which show you where bathing is allowed. Of course, this is a great beach for surfing and there are plenty of surf shacks in the vicinity which sell or hire boards and wetsuits - these are a must for all except the hottest of days - for surprisingly reasonable prices. All in all, if you don't want to travel abroad but want a little bit of 'surf' culture without the tourist tat of Newquay, then I would definitely recommend Woolacombe Bay.
