Location here was brilliant. Cleaning of rooms was very thorough. We pre-booked the scuba week as part of our package and it was an experience of a lifetime! There are a couple of gripes that, although they didn't ruin our holiday, are worth pointing out. The restaurant really was filthy and put us off eating there. Our deal was half-board but we ended up not really eating at the hotel at all. However, the price was such a good deal that we had plenty in our budget for eating out, and I think that often suits holidaymakers better. Package included a transfer from the airport which worked well.

Location of this hotel and the surrounding views were lovely, but the poor organisation of the All Inclusive arrangements and the poor manners of the staff really ruined our stay. The way the All Inclusive deal worked was through a kind of access card that you needed to show to get drinks, food or use the facilities. We are a family of 5, so as you can imagine sharing 1 card between the 5 of us caused lots of problems - leading to disagreements with staff (who were stubborn and unhelpful) and grumpy children. Cleanliness of the rooms was ok most of the time, but the dining area was pretty disgusting and we ended up clearing tables to eat at every night - it was meant to be a holiday!

We visited Gran Canaria last January which is off peak season. The weather was great though and I dont like it too hot anyway. It was about 20-25 degrees round the south of the island. Maspalomas beach is a huge expanse of sand that looks like the desert. There are some pretty impressive dunes that are great fun to try and scale aswell as many sun loungers for the worshippers. We saw what looked like a camel ride across the dunes but it was closed in January. We had the dunes pretty much to ourselves for one day of our hols which was brilliant. The sand is fine and the beach to a large extent is very clean, although I can imagine it may be different in high season. Some of the beach is designated a nudist area so be careful not to stray into there if you are easily embarressed! Just off the beach towards the lighthouse are toilets and a marketplace with several shops. Great fun.

We booked on the net, to go to Las Americas for a week, got a great deal in September, roughly £200 each! Nice time of year to go, kids back at school. and nice and sunny. Las americas is a great resort, lots of bars shops, restaurants, pubs, lovely beach, more for the single person than a couple. Have great memories of this holiday, and would definetly go back!

Overall our trip to Gran Canaria was reallly nice but I do have a slight gripe about the self catering properties we were staying in. After booking what was a fairly cheap jaunt across to Gran Canaria on lastminute.com we arrived to be greeted by a rather lacklustre welcome. It may have been simply because it was the off season but the staff seemed really not bothered we were there. The property itself was littered with cockroaches, which we quickly shoed out of the vicinity! Shower was hot for about 5 seconds, although it wasnt too bad because the weather was so hot. I know its normal not to expect 5 star accommodation when booking cheaply but we would expect something better
