Eurostar is a high-speed passenger rail service connecting Paris and Brussels with the UK through Ashford International station in Kent and central London station, St. Pancras International. It operated its first service between Paris and Brussels in 1994 and today its connecting services provide links to over 100 destinations across Europe. The High Speed 1 rail link crosses under the English Channel via the Channel Tunnel between Britain and France with trains travelling at speeds of up to 186 mph on a network of updated high-speed lines. These lines claim to have lessened journey times since inception with London-Paris taking just 2 hours 15 minutes, London-Brussels in 1 hour 51 minutes and London-Lille in as little as 1 hour 20 minutes. Eurostar stops at Calais, Lille, Brussels, Paris and Disneyland Paris and has helped double the amount of visitors to these cities but they also operate a Tread Lightly environmental initiative; a 10 point plan which aims to make high-speed rail even greener.
