We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Edinburgh around 6 months ago during the height of summer and have a couple of gripes to share on the blacklist. The first was that the air con didnt seem to work while we were there, which was quite uncomfortable on a hot day, and sticky at night. Secondly the breakfast menu was bland and pricey, so we avoided eating there altogether!Having said that the rooms were clean and practical, what you would expect from this hotel chain so it wasnt too bad. If you do stay there check everything is working as it should, especially the air con, BEFORE you accept the room for the night.

great business hotel nice bar good food - although there was a lack of service staff on duty as my friend had to wait 15 minutes to get a glass of wine to go with dinner

We booked the holiday inn hotel near Euston station last year. the rooms are small but adequate and the service good. the best recommendation i could give was the indian restaurant in the evening. the area wasn't the best and we have children with us so stayedin the hotel. the restaurant was almost empty but the manager gave fantastic service and the meal was brilliant. Funny /perculiar thing happened during the trip though.... My daughter (then 8) wanted to use bathroom in our room during our meal so my husband took her upstairs. On coming out of the lift the door opposite opened and a woman walked out in a red basque, stockings and suspenders and long red boots. She walked to the room down the corridor giggling. My daughter looked at her dad and said "the cleaners are working late tonight aren't they!". My husband couldn't stop laughing - when I asked him what the woman looked like he couldn't answer, his eyes hadn't got up to her face! I probably wouldn't recommend it for taking young children but it gave us a laugh!
