Information on Tenerife, places to see and things to do
This “paradise island” is the largest of the five holiday islands in The Canaries, a Spanish archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean. The whole island chain is volcanic in nature, and Tenerife is home to Mount Teide, the third largest volcano on Earth. The Weather is sunny and dry all year round, with temperatures ranging from around 19˚C in the winter to up to 30˚C in the summer. It should be noted that the northern resorts tend to have more cloud and rain than the south.

Like the rest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is an area of superb natural beauty. There are black sandy beaches and blue seas, splendid mountain ranges and cliffs, and bizarre volcanic landscapes dotted with banana plantations.

Major resorts include Playa de las Americas and Los Christianos in the south, two of the biggest and liveliest resorts, with visitors enjoying the busy nightspots, and beach activities from sun bathing to water sports. There are also fantastic golf courses, water parks and animal parks on offer. Los Gigantes, Puerto de Santiago and Playa de Arena to the west are smaller, more relaxed resorts, great for diving, boat trips and water sports. Cooler Puerto de la Cruz in the north is the oldest resort on the island and great for activity holidays, hiking and sightseeing. Santa Cruz, the capital, is to the north east and has a good variety of interesting museums and galleries.

There are two airports, Reina Sofia (near Los Christianos), in the south, and Los Rodeos (near La Laguna) in the north.
